Saying something is BS is not an opinoin it is a cop out

This morning my wife and I were discussing President Bush's speech and how he wants to send more troops to Iraq. If you missed the speech you can view it here my wife made the comment that everything that comes out of his mouth is Bull Shit. Two problems with this kind of thinking. While I am in no means a Bush supporter an "everything" statement is a false statement. You cannot make a blanket statement like "everything, no one, everyone, etc". Those are false arguments and make your argument invalid. Second problem. Using Bull shit as an opinion statement does not speak highly of ones communication skills. I simply told my wife that there are more intelligent ways of stating your opinion than saying something is BS. If that's your only argument you're not saying very much. Her response was to tell me to get off my high horse or she was not going to talk to me anymore today. In other words she became defensive because she knows I'm right but instead of just changing her communication skills or learning better ones she'd rather get mad at me and accuse me of being on some high horse. I guess I just chose to communicate in a more intelligent manner. Any yokel can say something is BS. It does not take much intelligence to use a swear word. If you want to convince me that your opinion is the right one than you had better have a better argument than saying something is BS, a load of crap, etc. Call me holier than thou or on some high horse if you would like but I and most people I know find it very difficult to take someone’s opinion seriously when all they can come up with is a swear word. At the very least if you insist on saying something is BS have some reasoning behind it. Just saying something is BS and not having anything to back it up is not going to get you taken seriously. Have an actual opinion and if you are called on it for using BS as an argument. Change your argument style so you will be taken seriously. Don’t accuse the person of being on some high horse. By the way, I have as much right to call you on using that kind of language around me as you have to use it so don't threaten to not talk to me because I called you on your use of language. I have just as much right to express my displeasure and will do so despite threats to, "not talk to me." And all comments like "high horse are used by the person because they have no real argument against what you are saying. It is a defence strategy to make you feel guilty for calling them on some behavior that you don't care for and attempt to make you look like the bad person. Don't fall for it I don't. Seems some people think freedom of speech only applies to them. Basically my wife was telling me that she has a right to say BS but I don't have a right to disagree with her using the term. It doesn’t work that way. I will continue to express my displeasure with that kind of language as I have the right. I just find peoples need to use such language interesting. Why not improve your language skills instead of getting mad when someone calls you on it.

Now, I'm no prude. Several of the tv shows I enjoy use sear words. The Saprano's, Six Feet Under, etc but they use the words in context. In other words they add to the story. What I don't agree with and have said before is when people use them purely for shock value. Saying BS just to say it is done purely for shock. If that's all you can say then don't say anything because you have not added anything of relevence to the conversation it and gives the impresion that you have the communication skills of a twelve year old boy. Any shumck can say that something is BS. Be a little more intelegent than Joe Blow down the street and form an actual opinion.
