Rape victum in Tampa put in jail after reporting crime and not given E C

It amazes me the insensitivity of some people. This is enough to make you're blood boil.
Not only was she allegedly raped but the police seemed more interested in going after her for a paper work snafu than getting her the help she needed after being attacked and then the jail medical person on staff would not let her take the morning after pill which was given to her by hospital staff because it was against the jail nurse's religious beliefs. If it has already been perscribed than the jail nurse should have no say in the matter no matter what her personal beliefs might be. Nice to know they were concerned with this womans well being. I hope this young woman gets the help and support she needs because she sure as hell did not get it from the Tampa Bay police. My impression is the Tampa police are more concerned with something you did four years ago instead of getting you help if you're attacked. Nice to see they have their priorities in order.

If you don't want to argue then don't bring up the topic, it's that simple

Here's something that happens in my house and I'm willing to bet it happens in yours. Your spouse says something and you have a differing opinion. You say what you have to say or start to and they cut you off and say they don't want to argue about it. Or ask you, "Why do you have to argue?" Well lets see. I happen to have a differing opinion so there for I'm going to state my case. This by the way since you stated your case I have the right to state mine. If you didn't want to have a discussion about it then why did you bring it up in the first place? Or there's this common discussion around many house hold. You'll say something your wife doesn't agree with or like and her response is to with hold sex or to make you sleep in another country. Too me this sounds very high school level. If you have to make threats like that because someone says something you don't like, you’re not being very mature. Ever notice it is only women who make threats like this. You never hear a man say. Well dear if you say that again I'm you'll never get sex again. Or,"I'm not going to talk to you. If a guy did say that his wife or girlfriend would have a fit but for some reason women find this to be an intelligent thing to say not realizing how high school level it really sounds. No offence but I outgrew saying things like this when I was about twelve. But most otherwise inelegant women I know who are in there thirty's forty's and even fifty's still talk like this and then wonder why their husbands/boyfriends make fun of them. If you don't want to argue or debate something then don't bring it up until you're ready to discus it because if your husband/boyfriend has a differing opinion he is going to say it and a news flash for many woman. He has a right to express his opinion too. The freedom to express ones self does not just apply to the female. It applies to everyone. So if you don't want to argue about it then don't bring it up. And if your husband/boyfriend has an opinion on the subject he is has every right to argue his point. If you don't want to hear what he has to say then don't bring up the topic.

Marching to the beat of your own drum

At work today I had a converstation with one of my co workers that got me to thinking about following the crowd and how glad I am that I don't have that affliction. It started when one of my fellow dee jays made a comment about the shirt I am wearing. Basicly it was in style back in 1982. I wear it because it is comfortable not because it is in or out of style. He was poking fun at me for daring to wear such a shirt and though it was odd. My response was to say, "now ask me if I care." I told him I don't wear cloths because they happen to be the fad of the moment. I wear them because they are comfortalbe and if people don't like it, tough. I happne to believe in thinking for myself and not doing things based on weather the crowd is donig them or if it is the latest style or fad. I've always been this way. Back in highh school I was looked down upon because I dared to be an individual. I never fell for the, "everyone else is doing it." trap but for some reason people had a dificult time excepting this. They throught I was some kind of outsider for dareing to think for my self. I don't have the coolest car. I have a Honda Civic because it gets great gas milage. I'm not going to get an SUV or whatever just to have a status symbal. Why would I waste money on a vehicle that you have to stop every twenty seven feet to refill with gas? You would be amazed at the funny looks I get from people for stating this opinoin. They would aparently rather have a gas guzzliong status symbol to impress their fake friends as apposed to being smart and getting a vehicle that won't cost them more than their kids college education to fill up the tank every week. I judge people based on who they are not wheather they follow what is cool. So if I choose to wear my 1982 style sweat shirt I will do so and if my co worker thinks he needs to make fun of it to make himself feel better I say go ahead. I do and wear what I like because I like it. Not because some TV show or magaxine tells me it is the in thing.

Saying something is BS is not an opinoin it is a cop out

This morning my wife and I were discussing President Bush's speech and how he wants to send more troops to Iraq. If you missed the speech you can view it here my wife made the comment that everything that comes out of his mouth is Bull Shit. Two problems with this kind of thinking. While I am in no means a Bush supporter an "everything" statement is a false statement. You cannot make a blanket statement like "everything, no one, everyone, etc". Those are false arguments and make your argument invalid. Second problem. Using Bull shit as an opinion statement does not speak highly of ones communication skills. I simply told my wife that there are more intelligent ways of stating your opinion than saying something is BS. If that's your only argument you're not saying very much. Her response was to tell me to get off my high horse or she was not going to talk to me anymore today. In other words she became defensive because she knows I'm right but instead of just changing her communication skills or learning better ones she'd rather get mad at me and accuse me of being on some high horse. I guess I just chose to communicate in a more intelligent manner. Any yokel can say something is BS. It does not take much intelligence to use a swear word. If you want to convince me that your opinion is the right one than you had better have a better argument than saying something is BS, a load of crap, etc. Call me holier than thou or on some high horse if you would like but I and most people I know find it very difficult to take someone’s opinion seriously when all they can come up with is a swear word. At the very least if you insist on saying something is BS have some reasoning behind it. Just saying something is BS and not having anything to back it up is not going to get you taken seriously. Have an actual opinion and if you are called on it for using BS as an argument. Change your argument style so you will be taken seriously. Don’t accuse the person of being on some high horse. By the way, I have as much right to call you on using that kind of language around me as you have to use it so don't threaten to not talk to me because I called you on your use of language. I have just as much right to express my displeasure and will do so despite threats to, "not talk to me." And all comments like "high horse are used by the person because they have no real argument against what you are saying. It is a defence strategy to make you feel guilty for calling them on some behavior that you don't care for and attempt to make you look like the bad person. Don't fall for it I don't. Seems some people think freedom of speech only applies to them. Basically my wife was telling me that she has a right to say BS but I don't have a right to disagree with her using the term. It doesn’t work that way. I will continue to express my displeasure with that kind of language as I have the right. I just find peoples need to use such language interesting. Why not improve your language skills instead of getting mad when someone calls you on it.

Now, I'm no prude. Several of the tv shows I enjoy use sear words. The Saprano's, Six Feet Under, etc but they use the words in context. In other words they add to the story. What I don't agree with and have said before is when people use them purely for shock value. Saying BS just to say it is done purely for shock. If that's all you can say then don't say anything because you have not added anything of relevence to the conversation it and gives the impresion that you have the communication skills of a twelve year old boy. Any shumck can say that something is BS. Be a little more intelegent than Joe Blow down the street and form an actual opinion.

urban legends and false news reports from the winter storm that hit Illinois on December first 2006

On December first 2006 La Salle Illinois saw one of the worst major snow storms in quite a while go through the area. The town of Utica had fifteen inches of snow and other areas around La Salle county were equally hard hit. I 80 which is a major interstate runs just north of La Salle Peru. During the stom traffic was backed up from Geneseo in the west to Ottawa at the eastern end of La Salle county. Several Chicago tv stations including WMAQ TV the NBC affiliate in Chicago began reporting that I 80 had been closed due to the traffic back up. The story even made the associated press wire and was read on several local radio stations. Shortly after the stroy was read on Q97.7 Streator Illionis/Q103.3 Spring Valley Illinois at 6:30 the evening of December first the station recieved a phone call from the Illinois state police saying that in fact I 80 was not closed. TRavel was not recomended buty the interstate was still open. At ten o clock when I turned on the NBC five news they were still saying that I 80 was closed. Now don't you think that a big station owned by a major network would have somtime in the four hours from the local radio station finding out that the hiway was not closed found out the same thing and gotton the story correct by ten pm. Nice to know the big guys do such a good job checking their facts. It was not just Channel five. Channles seven, two, nine, and thirty two were also saying on their late news casts that the interstate was closed four hours after it was announced by the state police that it was indeed open. Just because travel is not recomended does not mean it is closed. There is a difference which you would think someone at a major network TV station would be able to figure out.

An urban legend has also sprung up involving the major traffic back up on I 80. There were some reports that the air national gaurd was air lifting stranded moterists off of the interstate. There is no offical report of this taking place. There were quite a few helicopters flying over I 80 but those were news helicopters from verious TV stations taking arial shots of the back up to be shown on the news. There are no verifiable reports of anyone being air lifted from the interstate by helicopter.

There is one true urban levgend to come out of the back up on I 80, a group of snow mobilers were infact taking food and water to stranded moterists. No word on if they were bringing porta pottys but theywere in fact taking food and water to moterists stranded on I 80. I'm sure in the comming days more stories about what happend on the interstate during the traffic back up will be told. Just keep in mind that some may be false and before repeating them you might want to double check to make sure what you are hearing is indeed what really heppend. .
